Stores Operative

Job Specification: Stores Operative Reports To: Supply Chain Manager

Location: DPF Engineering, Carlow.

Job Summary: The Stores Operative is responsible for managing and maintaining stock within DPF Engineering stores. This role ensures that materials and products are properly stored, tracked, and made available for production and dispatch as needed. The Stores Operative will handle receiving, storing, and issuing materials, as well as maintaining accurate inventory records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management:
    • Receive and inspect incoming materials and products.
    • Record and document received goods using inventory management systems.
    • Ensure accurate and up-to-date inventory records.
    • Conduct regular stock counts and audits.
    • Report discrepancies between physical counts and system records.
  • Storage and Handling:
    • Properly store materials and products to prevent damage.
    • Organise stores space efficiently.
    • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the storage areas.
    • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Material Issuance/Customer delivery packs:
    • Pick, prepare and pack materials and products for production and dispatch.
    • Prepare job pack for Production
    • Ensure timely delivery of materials to the production line & finished goods to customers
    • Prepare delivery paperwork for customer orders
    • Handle returns and re-stock materials as needed
    • Organise shipments with customers
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of all inventory transactions.
    • Prepare and submit reports on inventory levels, stock movements, and discrepancies.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth material flow.
  • Purchasing/Collections:
    • Follow up with suppliers on open orders
    • Place purchase order for consumable items
    • Organise collections with suppliers
  • Health and Safety:
    • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
    • Identify and report potential safety hazards.
    • Participate in safety training and drills.

  Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Proven experience as a Stores Person, Warehouse Worker, or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
    • Familiarity with inventory management systems and practices.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to operate stores equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks).
    • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word).
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials.
    • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., temperature variations in the warehouse).

Working Conditions:

  • The role is primarily based in a stores setting within a manufacturing factory.
  • Standard working hours, with potential overtime during peak periods.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
