As International Women’s Day approaches, we invited our longest serving staff member, Marie to tell us what it’s like to be part of the DPF Engineering team.
Can you share a bit about your career journey at DPF and what inspired you to join (and stay!) with the company for so long?
Being the longest serving employee, it has been a pleasure working for the company for over 15 years. It is fantastic to see the growth across the business in terms of number of employees, turnover and skill levels.
What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a woman working in an engineering company, and how did you overcome them?
While I am working as office and accounts manager, I have not encountered any challenges based around being female.
How has the industry evolved in terms of gender diversity since you first started?
I have noticed the increase in female employees, across many areas of the business which is fantastic to see.
What advice would you give to young women considering a career in engineering, either in a practical, ‘hands-on’ role or working in the back office?
I would advise them to just go for it, in the modern workforce being female isn’t a barrier, if you have the skill level and the determination to seek out an opportunity in the field of your choice, the opportunities will present themselves.
What initiatives or changes have you seen at your company that support women in engineering?
The number of women employed has steadily increased, it is due to many factors.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
For me, it is great to see women taking these opportunities within their desired field of choice, engineering, science, technology etc. IWD allows us to celebrate the ongoing diversification of the workplace and not having woman only dedicated to certain jobs but as equals to whatever opportunity they wish to pursue.
